Doris Ulmann and the Crafters of Western North Carolina

$3.50

This exhibition and publication, Doris Ulmann and the Crafters of Western North Carolina, focuses attention on one of the foremost photographers of the early 20th century and on the extraordinary body of work she created, in 1933-1934, in and around Brasstown, North Carolina and the John C. Campbell Folk School.  Her admiration for the School and her "sympathetic interpretation and artistic treatment" of the rural people and their handicrafts, are evident in her remarkable images.  As she intended, these images resonate and urge us to consider our surroundings, as loudly today as when they were created.
