Jenna Ashcraft
"I’ve been working in the glass world since 2011. I started off in sales, and after a few years of being immersed in the creative environment, I transitioned to making.
In 2017 I had the opportunity to attend Penland School of Craft. There, I gained knowledge and skills needed to dive full time into glass as a career.
Currently I design and work out of a shared studio space in Asheville, NC. I find joy in the process of dreaming an idea and turning it into something tangible. My work presents a balance of geometric form coupled with an array of color in which I hope to encapsulate the ethereal nature of glass."
Flameworking
"Flameworking, also called torchworking, is a process using a table top torch to melt and manipulate rods of glass.
I use a type of glass called Borosilicate, which is often referred to as “hard glass.” It is a durable material that allows me to create varying sizes of work that remain lightweight and wearable."
Borosilicate, also known as Pyrex, has a high melting point, and is resistant to thermal shock. It is the choice glass used for cookware, scientific purposes, pipes, and jewelry.
